Our Vision for the
Library
It
is the goal of the Gold Ridge Library to provide an accessible,
comfortable atmosphere with updated books and technology where
students, parents and staff can extend their knowledge.
We
want the library to be part of the community and, therefore,
accessible. This is why it is open all day, 45 minutes before
and after school, during the noon lunch hour, selected evenings
and Saturdays.
Parents
are encouraged to be a part of the library. We have established
a parent book swap section to encourage reading families. We
have adult technology classes on selected evenings and some
Saturdays and parents are welcome to come in the library at
any time during the day for research or to browse.
Reading
has the highest priority at Gold Ridge and is fostered
through the library. We have an automated system so students
may check out as many books a week as they wish and have at
least one hour in the library per week. There are bean bags,
a couch, waterfalls and lamps to create an atmosphere where
reading can be enjoyed.
There
are many resources to use in the library. There are 33 networked,
Internet - connected Pentium PCs (equipped with DVD ROMs, 17"
screens & microphones) two scanners, one photo printer,
one color LaserJet printer, three digital cameras, one computer
microscope, two CD burners, 150 CD Rom programs available for
class checkout, a TV-VCR connected to a presentation computer,
two video cameras, a computer video editor, video projector
and an automated library program.
Students
receive one hour a week of classroom time in the library where
they receive technology training, do research with the Internet
and printed resources or can just sit and read. |
