trimester:

English Language Arts
Word Analysis
- I know more than one meaning for some words.
Comprehension
- I can use what I know and what I read in the
text to guess what will happen.
- I can tell what is happening in a story and why
it is happening. I can then predict what will happen next.
- After reading a story, I can tell why characters
think and act the way they do.
Writing
- I can write using quotation marks, apostrophes,
and parentheses.
- I can write summaries.
Mathematics
Number Sense
- I can read and write numbers up to and in the millions.

- I can round whole numbers through the millions
to the nearest ten, hundred,
thousand, ten thousand, or hundred
thousand.

- I can decide when a rounded solution is needed

- I can solve multi-digit addition and
subtraction problems and use standard addition
and subtraction algorithms of
multi-digit numbers to solve word problems.

Algebra & Functions
- I know parentheses tell me what to do first
when solving math equations.

- I know and understand that equals added to
equals are equal.

by equals are equal.

Word Analysis
- I can use synonyms, antonyms, and word origins to
help me understand the meanings of new words.
- I can use root words to help me understand the
meanings of new words.
- I can follow three or more directions to
complete a task.
- I can tell the meanings for the words simile,
metaphor, hyperbole, and personification. I can find examples in
literature.
Listening & Speaking
- I can summarize orally a topic using important
details.
Writing
- I can organize my writing to be understandable
to my audience.
Mathematics
Number Sense
- I can compare and put whole numbers in order.

- I understand and correctly use standard
algorithms for multiplying a
multi-digit number by a two-digit
number.
- I understand and correctly use standard
algorithms for dividing a
multi-digit number by a one-digit
number.
- I can use relationships between algorithms to

English Language Arts
Word Analysis
- After reading more than one selection, I can
tell how they are alike and different.
- I can explain the concepts of cause and effect
and between fact and opinion.
Listening & Speaking
- I can present information orally that I have
learned from different sources.
Writing
- I can write a 3-5 paragraph essay with an
introduction, supporting paragraphs with topic sentences, a conclusion,
and use correct indentation.
- I can organize my writing in several ways: using
sequence, cause and effect, comparing and contrasting, or asking and then
answering a question.
- I can edit and revise my written work.
- I can write narratives, responses to literature,
information reports, and summaries.
- I can write sentences using appositives,
participle phrases, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositional phrases.
- I can spell grade level words correctly.
Mathematics
Number Sense
- I show that I know the concepts of negative
numbers.
(Examples: I can count backwards. I
know when I owe someone money.)

- I can find where whole numbers, positive mixed
numbers and positive
decimals to two decimal places are on a
number line. On a number line, I can
show how far from a given number a
positive mixed number is. On a number line
I can show how far a positive decimal
is from a given number.

- I can round two-place decimals (hundredths) to
one decimal (tenths) to the nearest
whole number.
- I can judge whether my rounded answer is
close.

- When given the value of one of the unknown

- I can measure the area of rectangular shapes
by using the appropriate units,
such as square centimeter (m2),
square kilometer (k2), square inch (in2),
square yard (yd2), or square
mile (mi2).
